  About the Association
About Us: Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) is the umbrella organization for all medical and dental doctors in private practice either as owners or employees.
Although private medical practice started in 1909, a formal Association of Private Practitioners was formed about 1921 under the name Association of General Medical Practitioners of Nigeria. Later on, in the late 1980s, the name of the Association was changed to Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, to address the concerns of members who are specialists.
The Association is organized on National, State and Zonal Basis across Nigeria.
The highest authority in the organization is the Annual General Meeting, AGM, held during the Annual Scientific Conference. In between AGMs, the Association is controlled by the National Executive Council, NEC, which consists of the National Officers and Chairmen and Secretaries of state branches.
The NEC meets about four times a year in states that volunteer to host the meetings. The National President of the Association, in consultation with other National officers, directs the affairs of the Association in between NEC meetings.

Mission of AGPMPN:
• To promote the advancement of health and allied sciences.
• To promote the welfare, encourage interaction and protect the honour and integrity of private practitioners for the overall improvement of the medical profession.
• To promote continuing professional development activities that will assist private practitioners to update their professional knowledge and skills for the enhancement of health care services in Nigeria.
• To cooperate with organizations any where in the World which have similar missions and goals.
• To assist the Government and people of Nigeria in the provision of smooth, efficient and effective health care services in the country.

Our vision is to ensure the provision of high quality healthcare in the private sector by highly-skilled professionals in a well regulated environment.

  About the Journal

The Nigerian Journal of General Practice, a publication of Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, is a peer-reviewed online journal with Semiannual print on demand compilation of issues published. The journal’s full text is available online at http://www.njgp.org. The journal allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository.

It is a multi-disciplinary, peer-reviewed biomedical journal that has been published since 1985. It invites scholarly manuscripts relevant to the broad discipline of Family/General Medicine education. It aims to publish evidence-based scientific research articles from a diversity of disciplines in the basic medical and clinical sciences. The Journal contents include original articles, review articles, case reports, perspective on topical health care issues, articles on the business and practice of medicine, book review and letters to the editor. The Journal is a source of continuing professional development to health care providers in the private health sector.

Journal Ethics

This is an open access journal, and articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 License, which allows others to remix, tweak, and build upon the work non-commercially, as long as appropriate credit is given and the new creations are licensed under the identical terms.

Digital Archiving

Wolters Kluwer Medknow provides for long-term digital preservation through two primary partnerships, Portico and CLOCKSS.

Portico is a leading digital preservation service worldwide. The content is preserved as an archival version and is not publically accessible via Portico, but is provided when required under specific conditions, such as discontinuation of the collection or catastrophic failure of the website.

CLOCKSS will enable any library to maintain their own archive of content from Wolters Kluwer Medknow and other publishers, with minimal technical effort and using cheaply available hardware.

Ahead of Print policy

Articles published online under the Ahead of Print model are considered published and can be cited and quoted using the DOI as the reference source. Wolters Kluwer Medknow has a policy that changes will not be made after publication of an article without following accepted procedures for making corrections to the scientific record.

Advertisements

While advertisements are crucial to this journal to be able to keep all content free for everyone, ethical considerations are in place to ensure the integrity of the journal and its content:

  • "Pop-up" and "banner" ads appear on a random, rotating basis. The advertiser has no control or input over the pages where their ads appear.
  • The Editorial Board has full and final approval over the content of all advertisements.
  • Advertisers will never be shown any manuscripts or other content prior to publication.

  Scope of the journal

The journal will cover technical and clinical studies related to health, ethical and social issues in field of Family Medicine, General Medicine, Public Health, Medical Education. Articles with clinical interest and implications will be given preference.
